The nose flute of Hainan
Hainai nose flute
The nose flute in Hainan is a musical instrument made from a single bamboo node with a hole at the node area for the breath, and three holes for the notes, on the top side of the tube. The flute can produce deep and pleasant notes in a range of seven scales.
The nose flute has been played by Li people for more than 1,000 years and is often used in conjunction with chants and song. It also serves as a medium of romance between men and women.
