The new schedule will trigger carriers to add more flights to Sanya. The number of flights at the airport is expected to reach 52,000 during the period, bringing a total passenger throughput of eight million. The annual passenger traffic of the airport is expected to see an eight percent year-on-year increase to reach 16 million.

During the new season, a total of 27 airlines will operate flights to Sanya, including 21 domestic airline companies and six international and regional airline companies.

The newly-added domestic flight routes include: Sanya-Hengyang-Xi’an, Sanya-Dazhou and Sanya-Huai’an-Tianjin.

Additionally, the airport will expand its air network to include more the Southeast Asian regions. Some airlines companies are planning to open international flights from Sanya to cities like Nha Trang, Bangkok, Kuala Lumpur and Phucket Island.
