2015 Hainan Cruise & Yacht Industry Summit kicks off in Sanya
The 2015 Hainan Cruise and Yacht Industry Development Summit kicked off at Sanya Phoenix Island International Cruise Terminal on October 15.
Activities at the three-day forum will include an opening ceremony, a series of yachting association union events, an investment promotion conference, a cruise and yacht forum, and a yachting exhibition fair
The three-day forum gathers 350 representatives of the world’s top 10 cruise companies and yacht enterprises, boating industry associations, and government delegations to discuss cooperation and the sustainable development of Hainan cruise tourism.
Currently, there are two cruise ports in operation on the island. Four more are currently under construction. Many big cruise liners frequently call at Sanya and Haikou, including the ships Star Cruises’ SuperStar Aquarius, Superstar Virgo and SuperStar Libra. In 2014, Hainan welcomed 229 cruise calls with a total of about 190,000 passengers.
Registered yacht-related enterprises in Hainan total 146, including 39 yacht clubs and three yachting crew training institutions. Hainan has a total of 12 yacht marinas so far, offering nearly 1,685 berths for yacht docking. Thirteen more yacht marinas are expected to be established.
This September, delegates from Sanya also traveled to Singapore, Vietnam and Malaysia to promote Sanya’s cruise tourism market. Meanwhile, Sanya is upgrading its Phoenix Island International Cruise Terminal by adding new and bigger berths to cater to the growing cruise market.
