Sanya was awarded the favorite island tour destination for Chinese tourists at the opening ceremony of the 2015 International Islands Tourism Conference, held in Zhoushan, Zhejiang Province on October 13th.
 
A total of 20 island destinations all over the world were selected out from 40 candidates. The final decision was made by an expert panel based on 3.85 million votes cast by internet users over the past two months.
 
 Phoenix Island 
 
There were five Chinese island destinations on the list, namely, Sanya in Hainan Province, Gulangyu Island in Fujian Province, Zhoushan Islands in Zhejiang Province, Long Island in Shandong Province, and Taiwan Island.
 
The other overseas island destinations were Maldives, Bali Island, Phuket Island, Sabah, Tahiti, Hawaii, New Zealand Island, Cook Islands, Sri Lanka, Whitsunday Islands, Palm Islands, Jeju Island, Okinawa, Seychelles and Santorini.
