Hainan Qiongzhou University in Sanya has been renamed Hainan Tropical Ocean University.
Hainan Qiongzhou University in Sanya has been renamed Hainan Tropical Ocean University after government approval was issued by the Ministry of Education of China on September 24th, 2014.
Qiongzhou University is a provincial state-owned university authorized by the Ministry of Education, which is located in the southern part of China. This April and June, the Hainan Provincial Government signed agreements with Ocean University of China and the State Oceanic Administration, respectively, which will jointly support the university in solving issues in its operation including capital investment, talent introduction, and infrastructure construction.
The renamed Tropical Ocean University is designed to be an international, reputable, high-caliber university. The university’s “disciplines and specialties” structure is intended to respond to current demands from industries in Hainan Province, as part of the plan to build Hainan into an international tourism island.
The university will place equal emphasis on teaching and research. The university will initially develop and cultivate the postgraduate classes and training in conjunction with distinguished domestic high-level ocean universities. This will be coupled with efforts to accelerate the implementation of Hainan’s “marine province” strategy, which will support construction of the Maritime Silk Road.
