New terminal at Sanya airport to be put into use by end of this year
Work on the third phase of the expansion of Sanya Phoenix Airport is progressing smoothly.
The third-phase expansion project started in 2010 with an investment of 2.8 billion yuan. As of now, five projects have been completed, namely, a VIP terminal, an aircraft parking apron, airfield lighting renovations, the relocation of the fire department, and the central substation.
Currently, the airport’s aircraft parking apron covers a total area of 65,000 square meters, offering 54 parking places.
The new terminal is expected to put into use by the end of this year. When it is completed, the total area of the terminal will be extended to 100,000 square meters, offering 70 parking places for planes.
The annual throughput of the Sanya airport has seen rapid growth in recent years. Upon its completion, the new facility at the airport will be able to serve 15 million passengers per year.
