Sanya delegation visits Vietnam and Malaysia to boost cruise activities

Malaysia is one of the areas that have been actively engaged in developing its ports. The Melaka Gateway, which is expected to open in 2018, will include a 900-meter-long cruise terminal, a 290-meter-long ferry dock, and over 1,000 yacht berths. Upon its competition, it will become a major hub for international cruise lines in Asia.
The Sanya government would like to establish a sister port relationship with Malaysia’s Melaka Gateway to mutually boost cruise tourism development in southeast Asian countries.

Apart from Malaysia, the delegation also visited Ho Chi Minh City, the economic center as well as an important port city in Vietnam, on September 14, to explore the possibility of a strategic partnership to boost cruise activities between the passenger terminals at the two cities, according to reports.
A symposium was held for further cooperation and exchange in cruise tourism between the two port cities.

According to an official at the Sanya Exit-Entry Department of the Public Security Bureau, Sanya has introduced a cross border pass policy to help grow its cruise market, which means that Chinese passengers cruising from Hainan to Vietnam need only a valid ID card to apply for a boarding pass.
Sanya authorities suggested that Ho Chi Minh City would consider adopting a similar arrangement to boost its cruise sector and for the convenience of cruise passengers.
Mr. Yue also officially invited Mr. La Quoc Khanh to attend the 2015 Hainan Cruise & Yacht Industry Development Summit in October in Sanya so that they can become better acquainted with Sanya’s cruise industry and tourism potential.
During the meeting, Mr. Yue also highlighted that Sanya has certain advantages of geographic location, which add to its potential as a major cruise port. He said that the government is mulling over a new multi-stop transnational cruise route connecting several overseas destinations, such as Cambodia, Thailand, Malaysia and Singapore, hoping that this cruise route will benefit regional economic development.
