Recently the Sanya government announced a plan to invest 600 million yuan to upgrade the water quality of the Sanya River within three years.
Sanya River is part of a citywide ecological restoration campaign. Recently the Sanya government announced a plan to invest 600 million yuan to upgrade the water quality of the Sanya River within three years.

The local government has rolled out stricter water management systems and plans to boost sustainable development of water resources, aiming to bring water quality to the national standard “Level II” by 2017.

This year, the government will allocate 210 million yuan to improve water pipelines across the city. As part of that effort, the government will reconstruct the city’s aging rainwater and sewage diversion systems along Haihua Road, Nanbianhai Road, Jinjiling Road and sections of Haihong Road. Additionally, three more sewage treatment plants will be built at the Nanbianhai and Hailuo residential communities.

The city has budgeted 146 million yuan for several major projects in 2016, including the following: a sewer dredging project will continue citywide; the existing sewage treatment facility at Sanya Bridge and Linchun Bridge will be renovated; and sewer pipelines along Yuya Road and other urban areas will be constructed.

To better manage the sector, the government will open a 24-hour hotline for residents’ complaints and reports in 2017, and a 24-hour river monitoring team will be formed to check for and respond to environmental accidents.
