Sanya is planning to reconstruct the national winter springboard and platform diving training base in Dadonghai.
 
According to a recent government document, Hainan will speed up the development of the sports industry and build a sporting events central island and coastal sports and leisure travel destination.
 
Taking advantage of its unique culture and geographic locations, the island play host to a number of annual international sports events such as the such as the Tour of Hainan International Cycling Race, Round Hainan Regatta and Hainan Open World Tour.
 
The island will focus on the development of other mature sports events, and develop dragon boat racing, bicycle racing, basketball, football, table tennis, badminton, tennis, and other mass sports projects. Beach sports, water sports, bike riding, outdoor sports, auto camping and other cool sports and tourism projects will be also developed.
 
Hainan will develop a winter sports training industry and meet growing demand for recreational activities and sports, such as the reconstruction project of winter springboard and platform diving training base in Dadonghai.
 
The national springboard and platform diving training base in Sanya was built and put into use in 1992, a training and recovery base for the national diving team and many famous divers like Gao Min, Fu Mingxia and Guo Jingjing had received training there.
 
After reconstruction, divers can receive training in a new training base where new diving pool, gym and flat for divers and other supporting facilities will be put in place.
