Sanya launches Li brocade weaving training courses
A total of 60 people Li have taken part in the training courses, including college students and primary school students.
With a history of over 3,000 years, Li brocade is one of the top 10 Sanya intangible cultural heritages. It has been listed as the national tangible cultural heritage in 2006 and was chosen in the first batch of items for the Intangible Cultural Heritage list released by UNESCO in 2009.
Li brocade is part of China’s national cultural heritage, but as few people nowadays have the skills necessary to weave the special brocades, the practice is in danger of becoming extinct. The aim is to promote the preservation of Li traditional culture as well as encourage locals to promote this centuries-old handcraft.
The relevant departments has taken measures in recent years to preserve this traditional skill include establishing special organizations, holding training courses, organizing foreign interchanges and publishing books on Li brocade.
