Sanya plans to invest about 75 million yuan in the citywide “Green Island Project” this year.
 
To improve the city’s environment, Sanya has formed the 2015 Forestland Protection and Utilization Plan. The tree planting activity is part of the citywide greening project for 2015.
 
Under the entire project, 59,000 acres of trees in coastal shelter belts and key passageways will be cultivated, and 818,000 seeding trees will be planted along rivers and reservoirs and in villages.
 
In an effort to make the city greener, Sanya will launch the annual tree planting campaign, in which residents can "adopt" trees for free and plant them at designed land areas.
 
The local government will continue to promote the sustainable development of ecology, economy and society in rural areas this year, including the construction of four ecological demonstration villages.
