Currently, the expansion of Sanya Ronggen Bridge (榕根桥) is open again to traffic at full capacity. The expansion is part of a government program to relieve the traffic burden in the center of downtown Sanya.
  
The expansion project of the Ronggen Bridge started in March 2015. It included widening the original bridge from 15 meters to 35.6 meters and expansion of the existing four lanes to six lanes, including one none-vehicle lane in each direction.
 
Ronggen Bridge is one of the most important links for Hedong Road, Linchunhe Road and Chunguang Road in Sanya. However, the former Ronggen Bridge, which is narrow and crowded, was overburdened by increasing traffic.
