To further develop the city as an international tourist Mecca, Sanya will launch a "toilet revolution" at tourist sites across the city this year to make the public convenience facilities cleaner and better managed, according to the local authorities.

Sanya will spend three years to improve the toilets at tourist sites that have long been complained of their insufficient numbers, unhygienic conditions, and lack of management.

According to the plan, public gathering places like tourist attractions and transport hubs and commercial shopping malls will be earmarked for renovation. By 2017, the city aims to make tourist restrooms at the major scenic spots reach three-star standards.

Good toilets sends a signal that Sanya will enhance the construction of other infrastructure in the city. The administration asked local authorities to step up policy support and launch campaigns for the move.
