A public hearing to consider raising the taxi flag-down rate will be held on July 30 in Sanya, according to the Sanya Price Bureau.

According to a plan released by the Sanya Price Bureau, there are two taxi fare adjustment proposals put forward for the taxi fare hikes.

Both of the two schemes propose to adjust the starting price of first category taxi rides from 8 yuan within the first 2 km to 11 yuan within the first 2.5 km.

Additionally, when the speed is below 12 km/h, the first five minutes are free and passengers are surcharged 20 percent of the post-2.5km journey fare every minute after five minutes.

In terms of return empty rides, a one-way taxi ride will surcharge passengers 50 percent of the post-10km driving distance fare every kilometer. During taxi operation between 11:00 p.m. and 6:00 a.m. next day, taxi drivers will surcharge passengers 20 percent of the total fare of the whole journey.

Proposed scheme one:
First category taxis: the rate for each additional kilometer after the first 2 km will be raised from 2 yuan to 2.4 yuan.
Second category taxis: the starting price will be raised from 8 yuan within first 2 km to 10 yuan within first 2.5 km, with the post-2.5 km charge to 2.2 yuan each additional kilometer.
