Sanya warns of forest fires due to lingering dry weather
Sanya authorities are warning that the city is at risk of increased incidences of forest fire due to lingering dry weather.
The forest fire prevention department under the Sanya Forestry Administration issued a forest fire alert for areas across the city.
Most areas in Hainan have experienced high temperature conditions and low precipitation in the first five months of this year, making city’s forested areas more vulnerable to wildfires. Precipitation in Sanya has been dramatically lower than normal this year, with precipitation 92.7 percent lower this year compared with previous years’ averages.
The forestry administration has ordered regional governmental authorities to step up monitoring and patrols to guard against possible wildfires, as well as create better emergency plans.
Meteorological authorities have forecast little precipitation in the region for the next five days.
