Sanya to boost cruise tourism
Cruise tourism has been soaring in demand for China’s leisure tourism industry. As an international tourist city, Sanya has exceptional resources helpful to develop the cruise tourism industry in the city. Cruise tourism has gradually become a major feature and a new growth engine of Sanya’s overall tourism.
Since the Phoenix Island International Cruise Terminal was put into operation in 2006, it has witnessed over 460 cruise departures and arrivals, with the number of cruise passengers totaling 784,000 as of this March.
As a major marine destination in China, Sanya has attached great importance to its cruise tourism industry.
The Phoenix Island International Cruise Port is stepping up increasing its capacity to dock mega-cruiseliners for cruise companies. In the second phase of the project, four additional wharfs will be built to accommodate 5-7 ships docking at the same time, including the world’s largest 225,000-ton liners.
Experts also pointed out that Sanya has an urgent need to add new and exciting innovations and itineraries by working with overseas destinations like Vietnam, the Philippines, Taiwan and Hong Kong.
