Hainan tourism promotion conference held in Seoul, South Korea
A Hainan tourism promotion conference was held in Seoul, the capital of South Korea, on May 18th.
Hainan has been a favorite destination for holidaymakers from South Korea who come to enjoy the sunshine and leisure golf holidays that the area has to offer.
Over the past 10 years, Sanya received 412,900 overnight-stay Korean tourists, who accounted for 42.5% of the total tourist arrivals of the Asian market. In 2007, the number of Korean tourists visiting Sanya set a historical record of 127,300.
However, Hainan’s Korean tourism market was severely hit by the global economic crisis in 2008 and was unable to recover after the downturn.
This year, the Hainan Tourism Committee decided to revive the Korean tourism market.
Since April 30, South Korea has been running chartered flights from Seoul to Sanya, with the hope of making new breakthroughs in expanding the local tourism market.
During the conference, the Hainan delegation discussed with the major Korean travel operators to re-design the tourism products with more focus on the family tourists market, in particular, Sanya, home to many international brand hotels, offering a full range of family-friendly facilities.
