Sanya saw its city’s GDP rise 7.8% year-on-year to 12.36 billion yuan in the first quarter of 2015, ranking 2nd among Hainan cities and counties, according to the latest statistics released by the Sanya Statistics Bureau.

Among them, the architecture, finance and transportation industries played an important supportive role in the city’s economy.

According to the statistics, 1.28 billion yuan of the GDP was generated by the architecture sector, reflecting a year on year increase of 16.1%. Meanwhile the province’s finance sector and the transportation and warehouse sectors generated 370 million yuan in GDP, an increase of 10.4% and 10% over the previous year.

Fixed-asset investment in Sanya reached 15.38 billion yuan in the period, ranking 3rd for growth rate on the island. Meanwhile, Sanya received a total of 4.2 million overnight-stay tourists in the period, up 10.1% year-on-year.
