Sanya has become one of the hottest tourist destinations for this year's May Day holiday.

Hotels in the city have been overwhelmed with orders as a large number of family groups and self-driving tourists are making travel arrangements to the city for the 3-day holiday, which falls on Friday this year.

The average hotel occupancy rates for the May Day holiday across the city are between 50% and 60%, and some of the hotels near the scenic spots are seeing their booking rates exceed 60%

However, although hotels in Sanya saw a high reservation level for this year’s May Day holiday, hotel prices have stayed almost unchanged in the city compared to that of the same time last year.

Hotel booking data from qunar.com, a leading online travel agency in China, shows that Sanya is among the top ten cities for this year’s May Day holiday. Other hot destinations are Xiamen, Hangzhou, Suzhou, Qingdao, Nanjing, Chengdu, Lijiang and Shanghai.
