Offshore duty-free policy drives tourism & shopping booms in Sanya
The offshore duty-free policy of Hainan Island celebrated its 4th anniversary of operations on April 20th. In the years since it was implemented, the policy has worked to greatly promote tourism and shopping consumption in Sanya, increasing tourists to the city and expanding the influence of Sanya as an international tourism destination.
According to data, the offshore duty-free policy has played an important role in promoting the prosperity of the tourism and consumption markets on Hainan Island. By February of 2014, the Sanya duty-free shop had received around 15 million visitors in total.
In order to bring the huge potential of the offshore duty-free policy into full effect, the Haitang Bay International Shopping Center opened to business last September. It is a comprehensive tourism zone taking the offshore duty-free shopping as its major feature with its large tax-free shopping space and abundance of international top brands joining in.
Currently, Haitang Bay International Shopping Center features nearly 300 international brands, mainly including perfume, cosmetics, jewelry, watches, clothes, leather products, bags, boxes, sunglasses, travel goods and special local products of Hainan Island and other places of China.
