The passenger volume of Sanya Phoenix Airport hit a historical record number of 100 million people on April 17th, 2015, since it began operations in 1994.
 
Sanya Phoenix International Airport was formally open on July 1, 1994. From 1994 and 2014, the airport’s passenger throughput totaled 94.21 million. This year, the 100 million passenger level is a milestone marking the popularity of the airport.
 
At present, Sanya Phoenix Airport has 297 domestic and international air routes with destinations reaching 132 cities.
 
To accommodate the increasing passenger rate, the airport is constructing its third phase expansion project. The project will build a new terminal covering a floor area of 100,000 square meters and 70 gate positions. Upon the completion of the project, Sanya Airport will be able to serve 20-25 million passengers a year.
