Sanya sees boom in MICE tourism sector
The MICE (meetings, incentive travel, conventions and exhibitions) sector in Sanya enjoyed significant growth in 2014, according to the Sanya Convention and Exhibition Bureau.
Statistics show that Sanya held a total of 11,710 conference business and exhibition activities in 2014, of which 36 were large scale conferences, indicating a year-on-year increase of 23%.
The MICE sector has been growing fast in Sanya in recent years thanks to the city’s booming hospitality industry and promotion activities launched by the local government. Meanwhile, the local government is speeding up the construction of exhibition halls in Yalong Bay and Haitang Bay to meet the increasing market demand.
Mr. Zheng Juliang, the Director of Convention and Exhibition Bureau, said that as hotels in Sanya offer great options for MICE planners, the local MICE tourism market will continue to expand when a large number of high end hotels open in the near future.
