Leisure agriculture, a new business that combines sightseeing, tourism and recreation, is booming in Sanya.
The latest figures show that more than 10 million tourists have participated in various leisure agriculture activities on the island over the last 4 years.
Recently, the Hainan Agricultural Department released the list of 2014 Provincial Leisure Agricultural Demonstration Sites. Among the list, 5 sites in Sanya were recognized as provincial leisure agricultural demonstration sites, including the Yaocheng Yizhan Agricultural Sightseeing Garden, Tiantiao Coffee Garden, Lubao Leisure Resort and Xueguli Dairy Farm.
“Leisure agriculture has become an important part of Sanya’s tourism industry, protecting local ecosystems and spreading Sanya’s unique natural scenery and agricultural offering”, said Rao Qian, the manager of Yaocheng Yizhan Agricultural Sightseeing Garden. Most of the leisure agriculture sites are equipped with a comprehensive array of supporting facilities such as restaurants, RV camping space and leisure fishing spots.
"With favorable government policies and more people having higher disposable incomes, leisure agriculture definitely has a bright future," she said.
So far, the city has 16 leisure agricultural and rural tourism zones. Rural tourism attracts more than 200,000 tourists annually, resulting in a total revenue flow of 200 million yuan.
