Sanya to invest RMB15 million to restore mangrove forests in 2015
Sanya is planning to spend 15 million yuan on the restoration and protection work of mangrove forest this year.
Sanya has seen a drastic decrease in its mangrove forests in the past few years. The program aims at building a citywide warning system to prevent mangroves from being damaged as soon as possible.
The government has mapped out effective mangrove conservation policies to help prevent negative consequences from human activities.
Many mangrove protection signs have been set up at the mangrove reserves in Yalong Bay and Sanya River to increase awareness and concern for the protection of mangrove forests among local residents and tourists in Sanya.
Meanwhile, the Sanya Blue Ribbon Ocean Conservation Association has selected as a patrol group who will organize mangrove protection activities including removing rubbish from mangrove forests and disentangling mangrove saplings in sensitive areas.
Mangrove forests are one of the most precious resources on the tropical Hainan Island, which serve to protect coastal areas from erosion, conserve biodiversity and maintain wetland environments & ecological systems.
