Car owners who desire an eco-friendly and customizable vehicle will have such an option soon when technology becomes available to permit 3D-printed parts to be incorporated into commercial cars.

On March 24, 2015, a 3D-printed concept car fabricated by a large EFDM based 3D printer successfully completed its initial road trials in Sanya. It is China’s first 3D-printed concept car using 3D-printing technology.

The vehicle’s main body, made by a 3D-printer over the span of five days, weighs 500 kilograms, and the rest of the vehicle uses other components for assembly. It takes one month to make this electricity-powered vehicle.

Chen Mingqiao, the General Manager of Sanya Sihai Innovative Electromechanical Engineering Co., Ltd said this new generation printer will have great benefits for a variety of applications, including tourism, culture, exhibition models, scientific research, souvenirs, art furniture, home accessories and much more.
