The outdated and unmanaged conditions of fishing boats in Sanya Port are considered to be a factor that is hindering the development of the yachting industry as the local government plans to turn the Sanya Port into a vital harbor of the city center.

At present, these fishing boats are intensely concentrated in the Sanya Port, the estuary of Sanya River. Due to the lack of effective management, the domestic garbage and pollution generated by the fishing boats have seriously affected the image of building Sanya into an international coastal tourist city.
Besides, the disordered distribution of fishing boats has taken up large areas of the port, which are the gatherings for berthing of various kinds of yachts. To some extent, it will limit the construction of the yacht industry development and relevant activities as well.
To solve the citys developmental problem, the Sanya government has decided to move these fishing boats to the Central Fishing Port at Yazhou Bay.

Upon its completion, the Yazhou Central Fishing Port will be an important economic zone fishing port, which will be able to accommodate 800 boats in the future.
