Since Hainan was chosen as the pilot region for low-altitude airspace management reform in 2011, the low-altitude flight tourism market has enjoyed rapid growth and has become a new trend on the island.
Being a brand new tourism product, the low-altitude sightseeing tours were popular among tourists during this year’s Spring Festival holiday. The helicopter and seaplane sightseeing tours reported huge earnings of over 2.49 million yuan during the holiday period after 985 low-altitude flights were made.
There are two aviation companies operating in Sanya, Meiya Air and Yalong General Aviation Co., which offer a variety of low-altitude flight tourism activities including helicopter and seaplane tours.
As of August 2014, the Yalong General Aviation Co has received 4,787 passengers since the low-altitude airspace tourism service officially kicked off in Sanya in November 2013.
Currently, the helicopter tour routes basically encompass the main attractions in Sanya, including Sanya Bay coastline, West Islet, Wuzhizhou Island and Phoenix Island, etc. Besides, Meiya Air also offers chartered flight services between Sanya and Bo’ao.
