In order to better expand the Russian tourism market in Sanya, a Sanya tourism delegation recently headed to major Russian cities with a focus on the city’s healthcare and leisure holiday tourism products.

A series of promotion activities are planned to be held in the 10 cities including Moscow, St. Petersburg, Tyumen, Samara, Nizhny Novgorod, Kazan, Yekaterinburg, Chelyabinsk and Novosibirsk.

Sanya has been the major tourist destination for tourists from Russian due to its rich tourism resources and favorable visa policies. The city’s warm climate all year round and its unique tropical flavor are hugely popular among Russian tourists.

However, in recent years, the Sanya tourist market has seen a significant decline in the number of arrivals from Russia. According to local travel agents, fiercer regional competition, the financial crisis in Russia and fall of the national currency rate as well as the lack of international flights are the main factors for the decline.

During the promotion, more tailored tourism products such as hot springs, tropical rural tourism and ethnic culture tourism will be further developed to meet the diverse travel demands of Russian tourists.
