Sanya’s ancient-style ship to offer sightseeing tours at end of March
If you’d like to explore the oceans on an ancient-style ship as people did in times long past, you may have such a chance in the near future.
An antique ship in Sanya, ‘Yong Le 01”, docked at the Nanbianhai Marina and began its trial tests on March 1st, 2015. The sightseeing tour service is set to open at the end of this March, according to Hainan Hangcheng Tourism Development Co. Ltd,.
The ship is said to be a replica of the treasure ship on which Admiral Zheng He (1371-1433 AD) undertook seven voyages in the 1400s.
Zheng He, a Ming Dynasty (1368-1644 AD) admiral, explorer and diplomat, took Chinese fleets on seven expeditions around the rim of the Indian Ocean from 1405 to 1433. According to some historical sources, Zheng’s fleets traveled to Southeast Asia, South Asia, the Middle East and the Horn of Africa.
Weighing 680 tons, the ship has a total length of 49 meters and a width of 10 meters and can hold up to 300 passengers. The 3-storey ship features a full range of entertainment facilities, including 2 buffet restaurants, a leisure bar and a 7D cinema.
After it is put into service, the ship will offer marine sightseeing tours of the Tianyahaijiao Scenic Spot and Nanshan’s 108-meter-high Guanyin Statue.
