A new kind of swimwear is being used on the beaches in Sanya. As the weather gets hotter, many men and women have been seen wearing body suits and protective head masks, dubbed ‘face-kinis’ by Chinese netizens, on the public beaches.

The face-kini was previously used by beachgoers along the coast of Shangdong Province who prefer a fair-skinned complexion over a suntan.

Coming in a range of colors, the ‘Face-Kini’, which comes complete with a body suit, covers a swimmer’s entire head and neck – down to the collar bone, and has openings for the eyes, nose and mouth.

As for an added benefit, the masks are credited with preventing the wearer’s face from getting stung by jellyfish.
