With the coming of the Chinese New Year holiday, Sanya’s aviation sector is gearing up to cope with the annual travel rush.

This year’s Spring Festival travel rush starts on 4th January and will last until 16th March, with 2 peak periods before and after the Spring Festival.

The Sanya Phoenix Airport is expected to handle 2.55 million passengers during the travel rush, a year-on-year increase of 8%.

The airport is expected to handle more than 1,000 newly added flights as well as chartered flights during the period. Most flights occupancy rates have reached about 95%.

Flights to Sanya mainly are concentrated from Beijing, Guangzhou and northern China regions.
