Hainan is expected to be the official permanent site for the annual World Chess Open, according to Mr. Liu Yueqing, the Secretary of the Hainan International Chess Association.

 

This season, the World Chess Open 2015 will be held in Sanya in October.

 

Hainan is making a bid for the right to host the World Junior Chess Championships scheduled for 2016 and will host the Provincial Chess Championship Match annually.

 

Currently, there are more than 50 kinds of world chess tournaments held in Hainan. In 2013, the National Junior Chess Championship was held in Haikou and the Super Grand Master Chess Tournament has been held in Danzhou Hainan for 5 consecutive years.
