A nationwide competition to vote on a tourism mascot kicked off on January 8th, 2015.
 
The public are welcome to vote for their favorites among the 20 candidate designs listed on www.sanyamascot.com, the official website, or at scenic spots including Nanshan Tourism Zone, Tianya Haijiao and Phoenix International Airport.
 
According to the organizing committee, as a lively representative of Sanya, the mascot will enable the city to be deeply planted in people’s hearts and emphasizes its identity as a scenic city. A tourism mascot is a cultural symbol and icon that shifts people’s focus from a symbol to a city and sweetens the image of the tourist destination.
 
The top 5 designs for the Sanya tourism mascots voted for by the public will be qualified for the final round of the competition.
 
The final winner will receive a total cash reward of US $50,000 and those whose works are selected as “Excellent Works” will be awarded US $5,000.
