The Xiamen-Haikou container express line commenced operation at the Xinhaida Marina, Xiamen Port on September 7th, 2015.
 
The new line is a big improvement from traditional marine cargo services between Hainan and Fujian provinces. Previously, shipments often took five to seven days to ship and clear.
 
Compared with package delivery by air and road, the new express service will greatly reduce transportation costs and the risk of goods damage, which is of great significance for Hainan’s fresh and live agricultural products exported off the island, said Mr. Lin Yi, CEO of Hainan Harbor and Shipping Holding Co., Ltd.
 
As major ports, Haikou Port and Xiamen Port play important roles in the government’s development strategy of "One Belt and One Road" (the international economic corridors of the Silk Road Economic Belt and the 21st Century Maritime Silk Road).
 
The new marine service will help build Haikou Port and Xiamen Port into shipping and logistics centers for Southeast Asia and Northeast Asia, respectively, as well as better serve the nation’s strategy to build strong marine industries.
 
Meanwhile, the new service will also lead to more close cooperation between Xiamen and Haikou on aspects such as cultural exchange, business cooperation, marine economy, and tourism development along the "21st Century Maritime Silk Road".
