Sanya plans to give priority to developing the modern service industry in the city to boost it into a competitive international tourism destination.
 
The modern service industry in Haitang Bay is going to focus on further developing the following tourism brands covering headquarters economy, high-end healthcare tourism, yacht marinas, trade and finance tourism as well as MICE tourism.
 
The fixed-asset investment injected into the Haitang Bay National Coast development zone has totaled RMB 58.8 billion since construction was started in 2008.
 
In 2014, the gross regional production in Haitang Bay reached RMB 3.5 billion, a year-on-year increase of 24%.
 
To build Haitang Bay into an international business travel center and green headquarters base, a number of key projects, including the Haitang Bay Duty-free Shopping Center, the Permanent Site for the Sanya Forum, an international arts center and an international exhibition center have been promoted in the region.
