The unveiling ceremonies, to mark a new city management system, were held in Sanya on January 2nd, 2015, during which the 6 former towns in Sanya were integrated into 4 districts.
 
Before July 30, 2014, there were direct jurisdictions over four county-level districts and two township-level sub-districts and six towns in Sanya City. Now there are four districts in Sanya: Jiyang District, Tianya District, Haitang District, and Yazhou District.
 
To ensure a stable transition from the former departments to the 4 newly-established organs, the Sanya government is pushing forward further redefining of the divisions of personnel, structures and functions for the 4 newly-organized departments.
 
The new plan aims to adapt to Sanya’s economic transformation and meet the requirements of urbanization and promote adjustment and optimization of the industrial structure and layout there.
