The existing Honggang Market is set to be relocated to a new site at Jiyang District in Sanya, according to the Sanya Government.

The limited space and poor maintenance of the Honggang Market in Sanya is considered to be a factor that is hindering the development of the coastal tourist city as Sanya plans to turn itself into an international boutique city.

Compared to the existing market, which has been operating from its current location since 1996, the new one will be the city’s largest comprehensive agricultural byproducts market, equipped with a range of facilities such as supermarkets, shopping centers and hotels for residents as well as a more modern environment providing better agricultural products.

Located between Yingbin Road and Yuya Road, the new market covers a construction land area of 241,000 square meters and is set to start trial operation on January 31st, 2015, providing over a thousand booths for traders.
