Haikou and Sanya was ranked among the China top 10 most livable cities in 2014, according to a report jointly issued by Chinese Academy of Social Sciences and China Institute of City Competitiveness on August 15, 2015.
 
A total of 289 Chinese cities are sorted by livability in the report. Zhuhai ranked 1st on the list, followed by Hong Kong, Haikou, Xiamen, Shenzhen, Sanya, Zhoushan, Wuxi, Hangzhou and Suzhou.
 
The research is based on an evaluation system called the urban livable competitiveness index. The key factors to measure the urban livable competitiveness include the urban construction and management, price-to-income ratio and per capita housing area.
