Volvo Ocean Race 2014-15 Sanya Destination Village to open on Jan 24
The VOR 2011-12 (Sanya Stopver) has been successfully held at Serenity Marina, Sanya.
The Destination Village for the VOR 2014-15 Sanya Stopover is scheduled to open to the public from January 24th, 2014 to February 8th, 2015, according to the relevant departments in Sanya.
Covering a land area of about 25,000 square meters, the Destination Village is equipped with a 3D cinema, navigation simulators and other facilities to let visitors experience the Volvo Ocean Race.
During the period, the authorities have organized a series of activities including an opening and welcoming ceremony, a prize-giving ceremony, a sailing practice experience, ticketed events, in-port race, pro-am race, Volvo Ocean Race experience, gala dinner party, departure ceremony and race village carnival.
Being one of the stopovers in the Volvo Ocean Race 2011-12 season as well, over 200,000 visitors experienced the sailing race that year. The sailing regatta also boosted tourism in Sanya in 2012. Nearly 5,226 special guests paid visits to Sanya for the event, bringing a total increase in consumption of 200 million yuan.
