Sanya is seizing a chance to position itself to become the center for sailing in China.

With its beautiful coastline, climate and natural harbors, Sanya boasts extremely favorable conditions needed to develop itself into a first-class sailing city.

In recent years, Sanya has hosted the most international sailing regattas in all of Asia, including the Volvo Ocean Race, the Round Hainan Island International Regatta and the Hong Kong-Sanya International Sailing Competition

Next February the city will once again host the Volvo Ocean Race 2014-15, after its satisfactory and successful performances during the stopover of the Volvo Ocean Race 2011-12. Sanya is the only stopover city in Asia for the Volvo Ocean Race 2014-15.

In addition, several international-class venues suited to large sailing events have been built in the city, including Sanya Serenity Marina, Yalong Bay Yacht Club and Sanya Visun Royal International Club.

The Sanya government is confident that Sanya will become China’s "capital of sailing" by way of introducing and hosting world-class sailing races, helping to promote the image of Hainan as an International Tourism Island
