Sanya is striving to build itself into a national ecological city in Fujian province by the end of 2014.

More high-efficiency, energy-saving systems will be used to promote energy conservation and environmental protection at the star-related hotels. Currently, there are 25 green hotels in the city, 15 of which are Gold-leaf level green hotels and 10 are Silver-leaf level.

Additionally, Sanya will speed up the construction of sewage and waste disposal facilities at the major scenic spots and service sectors.

Meanwhile, the local government also encourages promoting the use of renewable energy lighting systems powered by solar energy and wind turbine energy in industrial projects, public facilities, and households.
