According to the Department of Housing and Urban-Rural Development, the Jiefang Road expansion project in Sanya is scheduled to be completed before the end of this year.

The project began on August 20th and involves a stretch of 1,023 meters from the section of Jiefang Road between Xinfeng Street to Heping Street. The upgrades involve expanding the road from 20 meters to 27 meters wide, with two-direction, four-lane roadways, including a 3.5-meter-wide non-vehicle lane in each direction.

In Sanya, Jiefang Road is a major road in the city. As more vehicles are running in the city, the narrow road can hardly meet the increasing traffic demand.

After the Jiefang Road is re-opened to traffic, the government is planning to accelerate the underground development and utilization at Jiefang Road to greatly ease this situation.

According to the plan, an underground commercial complex will be built with two stories of public service facilities, such as underground shopping malls, underground commercial streets, and a 12,000-sqm underground garage, which can accommodate more than 800 vehicles.
