200K seniors from northern cities expected to fly to Sanya for warm winter
According to the Sanya Senior Association, more than 200,000 elderly people from northern Chinese cities are planning to fly to Sanya to escape from the cold of winter this year.
"This will be our fifth time flying to Sanya for a warm winter. It’s wonderful to spend winter in Sanya and this year we have rented an apartment in Sanya before arriving there,” reported one elderly couple.
The main reason the elderly choose to spend winter in southern cities is that the cost of spending winter in their cold hometown is almost equal with what they need to spend to live in southern cities instead.
According to one investigation, elderly people flying to Sanya have a few different options for accommodation. Some choose to live in a senior’s lodge, which often feature a variety of body and sports facilities and the food is included in the service. Others rent short-term arpartments where they are able to cook for themselves.
