Mr. Tom Touber, COO of the Volvo Ocean Race, visited Sanya on September 24th after Sanya had been officially announced as the fourth of ten stops once again in the 2014-15 Volvo Ocean Race after the 2011-12 season.

Wang Yong, the Mayor of Sanya Municipal Government met with Mr. Tom Touber, and detailed the preparation work for the Volvo Ocean Race 2014/2015.

Sanya stood out from 82 cities bidding for hosting the 2014-15 season, becoming one of 10 stops globally.

According to Tom Touber, the COO of the Volvo Ocean Race, all sailing teams will use the same design of boatS and the race in 2014-15 will feature an all-female team for the first time.

Tom Touber also added that Sanya has many advantages including great facilities, perfect weather conditions and the warm hospitality of the public, which will make the stopover a highlight during the upcoming ocean race.

“We also hope that our endeavors can make the Volvo Ocean Race an important project to build Sanya into an international tourism island utilizing its global influence, culture and branding value”, said the Mayor of Sanya.

The sailing teams are expected to arrive in Sanya on January 24-25. During VOR stopover time, a series of activities will be held to celebrate the arrival of the fleet.
