In recent years, Sanya has been focusing on environmental and ecological civilization construction in the city, aiming to build itself into a national ecological city.

As part of the city’s environmental protection projects to avoid and reduce food waste generation, a kitchen waste treatment center capable of processing 100 tons of kitchen waste daily is under construction in Phoenix Town.

Besides, channel improvements, city road construction and landscape engineering have also been taken into consideration.

Sanya has invested 26.33 million yuan into the reconstruction project of wastewater separation infrastructure in the Sanya Bay and Sanya River areas with the cleaning of an old 4.45-kilometer pipe.

The local government has also invested 80 million yuan into a greenbelt renovation project in Sanya Bay. The whole project is expected to be completed by the end of this year.

Besides, Sanya has started work on urban environmental remediation in the city. The main projects include a sewage treatment plant in the Hongsha Area and a trash-burning power plant, which is scheduled to begin trial operations this December.
