The opening of the new Haitang Bay Duty-free Mall on Monday drew huge numbers of tourists and customers.

On September 1st alone, about 10,000 customers visited the 70,000-sqm store that offers 21 types of imported commodities, including jewelry, handicrafts, watches, perfumes and cosmetics.

The opening of the Haitang Bay Duty-free Shopping Center is another step by the Sanya government to build the region into a more attractive tourist destination for both foreign and domestic visitors.

"We have been hearing about the relocation of the duty-free center for months," said Mrs Li, a tourist who travels to Sanya every year. "The shopping mall here is much more spacious and upscale. I will come here again and tell my friends to buy duty-free products if they fly to Sanya for their holiday," she said.

The Sanya Haitang Bay International Shopping Center is the world’s largest DFS, with the biggest brands and the most complete selection of items. Besides shopping, customers can also enjoy entertainment venues, restaurants and hotels at the mall."

Hotels near the shopping center in Haitang Bay are preparing for an influx of guests.
