Sanya Library extends hours, closing at 9pm
Sanya Library began its new operating hours on August 19th, and will now stay open an extra three hours in the evenings, closing at 9 pm instead of 6 pm. This means that it will open for a total of 60 hours a week.
The Sanya Library opened in 1964 and is the largest public library in the south of Hainan Province.
The library has gone through a series of renovations since March 2011. The newly upgraded library offers the public more than 300,000 books, 120 newspapers and nearly 1,000 magazines. All of the books in the reading room are free to read.
In 2013, the Sanya Library was recognized as a National Level-2 Public Library.
The authorities hope that the extension of the operating hours and the free use of the library will allow them to increase the quality of service for local residents
