Sanya-Wuhan flight receives no instructions to land after airport staff fall asleep
A China Eastern Airlines flight from Sanya, Hainan to Wuhan, Hubei received no instructions to land at the Wuhan Airport when two on-duty staff fell asleep at the Wuhan Control Tower.
Commands were soon given from radar control staff for the plane to turn around and finally descend 12 minutes later, according to Oriental Daily.
Central and Southern Regional Administration confirmed that the staff were to blame for the incident. Two officers breached administration regulations and the radar control staff were also penalized for poor safety awareness after directing the plane to go around in absence of communication with the control tower.
The administration suggested that the Air Traffic Management Bureau of Middle and Southern region Hubei strengthen staff training over safety issues and adopt effective measures as to avoid such incidents from happening again.
