Many wild macaques on the mountain in Luhuitou Park have attacked numerous tourists in recent weeks, according to reports.

In the first 7 months of this year, a total of 63 attacks by the wild macaques have been reported, 35 cases more than the same period of last year, according to the Luhuitou Park Scenic Spot Company.

In the past, tourists have made the mistake of offering food to the macaques and openly carrying foodstuffs with them. The monkeys have become used to it in recent years and have recently become more aggressive.

About 500 macaques live in the wild on Luhuitou Mountain, one of the popular tourist attractions in Sanya.

In this regard, the tourist attraction has put up signboards that read, "Warning, macaques". Authorities have also advised tourists not to feed the macaques because once they become accustomed to regular handouts, they are more demanding and more likely to attack those who do not offer them food.
