In recent years, the Sanya government has paid great attention to building stronger ties between the tourism and floral sectors in the city and has made great achievements toward its tourism diversity.

To build a reputation in the orchid industry, the annual International Orchid Show has been successfully held in Sanya for 8 consecutive years and the flower is becoming a new name card of the city.

Yalong Bay International Rose Valley specializes in tourism sightseeing as well as the cultivation of roses and the manufacture of products such as rose tea, oils and ornaments, and has has become the most characteristic rose-themed cultural base in China.

As Sanya’s largest flower farm and garden, the Haitang Bay Flower Farm received 170,000 tourists during last year’s Spring Festival, with daily visitor arrivals as high as 30,000.

According to the Sanya tropical orchid industrial development plan being carried out between 2011 and 2020, by 2015 the orchid-growing area in the city is expected to reach 6,000 acres, and there is expected to be total sales estimated at 270 million yuan. By 2020, the city will have developed into the largest tropical orchid industry center in China through the combination of the production, trade and sightseeing tourism of orchids.

The combination of tourism and traditional agriculture is regarded as a good example of rural land reform and a good way to boost local farmers’ income.
